BENGALURU: A govt school teacher in his late 40s from Chitradurga district was arrested Saturday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl inside a classroom and later getting her to undergo abortion at a private nursing home. The accused is identified as Rajanna, and police are looking for the woman doctor who conducted the abortion. A senior police officer said the incident came to light when a few members of the child welfare committee visited the school recently and a few students tipped them off. Later, the committee members interacted with the survivor, who disclosed that Rajanna had threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone. “When Rajanna came to know that the survivor was pregnant, he took her to the private nursing home and had the abortion done. The girl, out of fear, had not told anything to her parents or other family members. However, a few of her classmates came forward before the committee members and exposed Rajanna’s heinous act,” the cop said.Immediately, one of the committee members filed a police complaint. “Soon after the case was registered, Rajanna and the woman doctor vanished, switching off their mobile phones. However, we managed to secure Rajanna. We will question him while another team looks for the doctor,” the senior officer said.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
