Hyderabad: An advocate from Tarnaka has accused a popular Telugu folk singer of threatening to kill him if he continued to pursue a cheating complaint involving her brother.Based on his complaint, the Punjagutta police registered a case against the singer and others on April 7. Earlier, the singer had lodged a complaint against the advocate with the Narsingi police, alleging that he was threatening her and circulating false information on social media. A case was registered against him by the Narsingi police in the third week of March.In his complaint to the Punjagutta police, the advocate stated that he represents a group of investors who were duped of nearly 10 crore in a microfinance scheme allegedly floated by the singer’s brother, Shiva, and others. The advocate told the police that when he met the singer and the other accused at their advocate’s office in Punjagutta on April 6, they pressured him to stop pursuing the case by offering money. When he refused, they allegedly issued death threats. “The singer threatened to kill me and dispose of my body without a trace,” the complainant alleged.Based on his complaint, the Punjagutta police registered a case under Sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) of the BNS against the singer, her brother, and three others.Earlier, on March 24, the singer approached the Narsingi police, alleging that the advocate had been spreading false and baseless claims that she had cheated people of 150 crore and had also threatened to defame her when she refused to meet him. A case was registered under Sections 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS against the advocate, and unidentified individuals. Both cases are under investigation, and no arrests have been made so far.
