Ahmedabad: An on-duty head constable and another officer were allegedly attacked while trying to detain a man near Anandnagar on Saturday. According to a complaint filed with Anandnagar police, unarmed head constable Jayvirsinh Hardevsinh of Anandnagar police station, who was serving as mobile van in-charge, was on duty with driver Vikramsinh Takhtsinh. “A case had been registered with Satellite police after someone allegedly tore a flag during an Ambedkar Jayanti event. Following this, police teams were stationed near Gopal Awas since morning to maintain peace,” the complaint stated.“Around 11 am on Saturday, cops noticed someone quarrelling near a fabrication shop in the area. The accused individual, Kamalsinh Parmar, was having a heated argument with another man who was removing goods from the shop. When we tried to calm the men, Parmar began abusing the cops present,” the complaint further stated.When cops objected to the abuse, Parmar allegedly turned aggressive and entered into a scuffle with the complainant. “Parmar kicked Hardevsinh in the stomach and even bit his right thumb. Parmar also twisted the thumb of another cop while they were trying to get into the mobile van,” stated the complaint.Hardevsinh further alleged that while being taken to the station, the accused threatened to “strip the cops of their insignia and ensure they do not continue in service”. At the police station, he allegedly continued abusing the staff and banged his head against a television screen installed for CCTV surveillance, damaging govt property worth about Rs 50,000.The complainant later underwent treatment at Sola Civil Hospital. A case was registered and further investigation is underway. The Anandnagar police have registered a case against Parmar for obstructing public servant in discharge of public, voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty, mischief and criminal intimidation.
