Chennai: Three men wore burqas and attempted to rob a jewellery shop in Madharpakkam near Gummidipoondi using a firearm on Thursday afternoon. The shop owner and employees, however, foiled their plan.According to police, the gang arrived near the shop in a car. Initially, one man wearing a burqa entered the shop posing as a customer and the others remained outside. He suddenly pulled out a firearm and threatened the shop owner, Ramesh. Three employees were present inside the shop.Police said the accused demanded that the ornaments be handed over and threatened to shoot Ramesh. Despite the threat, Ramesh raised an alarm and tried to escape. Subsequently, two other members of the gang entered the shop and attacked Ramesh and employees with the gun. A shop employee was injured in the incident. Hearing his cries, passers-by rushed to the store, and noticing the crowd, the gang sped away in a car. Special police teams have been formed to trace and nab the accused.
