Salem: PMK president and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss slammed the school education department authorities for allowing a teacher, who was already facing a case under the Pocso Act at the Suramangalam police station, to continue to work in a govt school where he faced similar charges, leading to his arrest.P Balasubramanian, a teacher at a govt school near Sankagiri, was arrested under the Pocso Act recently for sexually harassing a few girl students. In a statement on Friday, Anbumani condemned the incident and alleged that even govt schools had become unsafe under the DMK govt. He said the teacher already had a pending Pocso case at the Suramangalam police station for similar allegations. Anbumani rattled off the total number of Pocso cases registered in the state in the past six years – 3,057 (2020), 4,415 (2021), 4,906 (2022), 4,581 (2023), 6,975 (2024) and 7,000 (2025). The number of cases reflected a sharp rise since the DMK came to power. “As many as 44,418 crimes against women occurred in the last five years,” he said in the statement.
