Bathinda: With 10 days into the official wheat harvesting and marketing season, Punjab has reported only one crop residue burning case as the harvesting has been delayed for it being impacted by rain, hailstorm and thunderstorm, but faraway Madhya Pradesh continues to go blasting in the crop residue burning. Madhya Pradesh reported 886 out of 1,222 crop residue burning cases reported on Friday across the states, taking the count past 8k to 8,099. Out of the total, 7,367 burning cases have been reported only from Madhya Pradesh, which turns out to be nearly 91% of the total burning cases so far in the wheat harvesting season.MP has also reported nearly 50% of the crop residue burning cases in the last five years as, out of the total 2,06,638 cases reported from 2022 to April 10, 2026, 102,053 have been reported from MP, followed by 47,978 from Punjab, 46,712 from Uttar Pradesh, 9,776 from Haryana and 119 from Delhi.
