Mumbai: Three people died in two separate fire incidents reported in Kamathipura and Bhayander East on Friday. Around 3.40pm, fire broke out in a ground-plus-two-storey chawl on 9th Lane near Shankar Mandir at Kamathipura. According to fire brigade officials, Suraj Anand (32) was found in an unconscious condition on the second floor of the chawl and rushed to JJ Hospital, where he was declared dead. The fire, which was doused within half an hour by 4.10pm, was confined to the electrical wiring, installations, air conditioning units, fans, clothes, and other household items. The origin and cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire brigade officials said, adding that it could be due to a short circuit. “There were about 10 rooms in the chawl,” said a fire brigade official. Firefighters were initially told that there was no one trapped inside the structure. They broke through the locked shutters to access the first and second floors and found Anand in one of the rooms. In the second incident, fire erupted in a slum area in Indralok Phase 4 in Bhayander East around 9pm. Police said they have found two bodies but are yet to identify them. A few huts were gutted in the blaze which was soon brought under control by the fire brigade. Around 23 LPG cylinders were removed from the site to avoid further damage. Around the same time, another blaze was reported in a warehouse at Maschapada in Mira Road, said officials.
