Mangaluru: Mangaluru is set to get its first DGCA-approved drone training academy, with Aerodynamiks Drone Training Academy scheduled to be launched on April 14 at Alva’s College, Moodubidire.The academy, established by Aerodynamiks Aviation Pvt Ltd, will function as a state-of-the-art Remote Pilot Training Organisation aimed at training aspiring drone pilots in drone operations, aerial technology and unmanned aviation systems.Addressing reporters on Friday, managing director Devirprasad Shetty said the academy is the first DGCA-approved institution of its kind in the region. He said the initiative was launched to create skilled and certified drone pilots to meet the rising demand in India’s fast-expanding drone sector.The academy will offer professional drone pilot training based on DGCA guidelines, practical flying sessions using advanced drones, certification programmes and career guidance. Training will cover drones weighing above 250 grams and below 25 kg.Shetty said the growing use of drones across agriculture, infrastructure, surveillance, photography, disaster management, logistics and defence, has created an urgent need for trained professionals. He said the academy’s programmes were designed in line with the latest DGCA norms to ensure students gain both industry-relevant knowledge and hands-on flying experience through modern drone equipment and simulation technology.“Our goal is to build a centre of excellence that prepares students for the future of aviation technology. The drone industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors, and through this academy we aim to create highly skilled, responsible and certified drone professionals,” Shetty said.According to the academy, the training duration will be less than 10 days. On successful completion, trainees will receive a DGCA licence, which is mandatory for operating drones in the specified category.The launch is expected to provide a major boost to drone education and skill development in coastal Karnataka, opening up new career opportunities for youth interested in unmanned aviation and related technologies.
