Patna: The rural works department (RWD) on Friday said it has completed preliminary ground-level work for upgrading 595 rural roads spanning 1,887km. The widening and strengthening of these roads will begin in the current financial year under the Saat Nishchay-3 programme, to be executed in phases.According to an RWD communique, the preliminary work included detailed departmental surveys, prioritisation of roads, and identification of stretches to be taken up in the first phase. These roads are part of the state’s push to ensure smooth and seamless connectivity. The department said the next phase involves key administrative steps such as shifting public utilities along the road stretches, ensuring land availability for widening, obtaining no-objection certificates (NOCs) from departments concerned , and securing environmental clearances.“This is a crucial administrative exercise being carried out on priority. The widening and strengthening work will begin once reports from the respective district magistrates are received,” the RWD said, adding that the focus is on transparency and maintaining high technical and construction quality. The upgraded roads will improve connectivity in rural and interior areas, linking villages to blocks, sub-divisions and district headquarters, and further integrating them with state highways (SH), national highways (NH) and major district roads (MDRs).For the survey, the department developed a mobile app to enable field verification. The exercise also assessed the availability of govt land along road stretches. The objective is to ensure all-weather connectivity and smooth movement across rural areas.
