NEW DELHI: A businessman and his grandfather were robbed of Rs 1 lakh at gunpoint in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar, in an incident that took a dramatic turn when a family member chased the accused and rammed their motorcycle. In a bid to escape, the assailants fired in the air and discarded the stolen cash along with the weapon.Police said information regarding the robbery and firing incident was received at Madhu Vihar police station on April 9. A team was immediately dispatched to Joshi Colony in the IP Extension area.The complainant told police that his grandfather, who runs a wholesale FMCG business in Sector-62, Noida, had just returned home with family members and an employee. At around 10.30pm, near Royal Banquet Hall, after getting out of their vehicle, the complainant and his grandfather were walking towards their residence when two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle.One of the assailants brandished a firearm and threatened them, before forcibly snatching a bag containing approximately Rs 1 lakh in cash.“On hearing the alarm, a family member chased the assailants in a car and managed to hit their motorcycle. However, the accused still managed to flee,” police said.During their escape, the accused allegedly fired in the air and discarded the robbed bag along with the weapon used in the crime.An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act at Madhu Vihar police station. Police teams are actively investigating the case, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being collected and analysed to identify and apprehend the accused.
