Dhubri: Two minors drowned in a pond at Pokalagi village in Dhubri district on Thursday.A police source from Tamarhat Police Station told TOI that Yasin Ali (5), son of Hasan Ali and a resident of Berbhangi in Dhubri district, along with Sumana Das (6), daughter of Nirmal Das of Mathabhanga of West Bengal’s Coochbehar district, went missing on Wednesday.Villagers searched for both the minors, but they remained untraceable until Ali’s body was spotted floating in the pond near the Hira Briks kiln at 11pm on Wednesday, the source said. When police were informed about the recovery of Ali’s body, they began netting in the pond from Thursday morning and Das’s body was fished out later. Police sent the bodies to the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.The incident cast a pall of gloom over the polling day on Thursday.
