Aizawl: The All Mizoram Village Council Association (AMVCA) on Thursday thanked the state govt for disbursing Rs 362 crore allocated by the 15th Finance Commission as Rural Local Body (RLB) grants for community development.Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, AMVCA president F P Laikhama said Rs 362 crore was earmarked as RLB grants for village councils for the 2021-2026 period, and the entire amount has been received.The association expressed satisfaction with the govt’s “unbiased” approach to fund distribution.“We are grateful that the govt has prioritised grassroots development without political discrimination,” Laikhama said.“Village councils, regardless of their political affiliations, have received their fair share of development funds, ensuring a fair and balanced distribution of development funds across the rural sectors,” Laikhama added.The AMVCA president noted that the government is actively working on revising the VC members’ honorariums, which have not increased since 2011.He also said the government is currently taking steps to establish a dedicated guest house in Aizawl for village council members to stay in when they visit the capital for official business.
