Chennai: YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar, who did not surrender even after his interim bail granted by Madras high court lapsed on March 25, was tracked down in Andhra Pradesh by Chennai police and arrested on Wednesday. Three others were also arrested with him by a special team from a hotel in Andhra Pradesh.Shankar was arrested on Dec 13, 2025, based on cases registered at Saidapet and Adambakkam police stations for extortion. He was granted interim bail on Dec 26, 2025, by the high court on medical grounds. The state subsequently moved the court seeking cancellation of the bail, stating that he had violated the conditions. As Shankar failed to surrender before authorities at Central Prison II, Puzhal, on March 25 after his interim bail period, a complaint was lodged by prison authorities with the Puzhal police, for offences punishable under Section 269 (failure, without sufficient cause, to appear in court in accordance with the terms of the bail) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police said Shankar continued to post content on social media targeting senior bureaucrats, including police officers, while evading arrest. After completing the investigation in the extortion cases, police filed charge sheets before the court. Following his arrest, Shankar and three others were brought to Chennai. He will be produced before a magistrate court on Thursday.
