Bengaluru: A late-night fire in north Bengaluru turned deadly, killing five cows and injuring a few others after flames spread rapidly from a nearby shop.The blaze broke out around 1.45am Monday at a plywood and used furniture shop in Shampura and quickly spread to an adjacent cattle shed on land owned by Muneshwara Temple Trust. About 20 cows were housed in the shed, and several were trapped as the fire intensified. By the time help arrived, five cows had been charred to death. A few others suffered minor burns and are undergoing treatment.Residents, awakened by smoke and flames, rushed out, alerted fire and emergency services, and tried to rescue the animals.The fire also destroyed four vehicles — a mini-goods vehicle and three scrapped two-wheelers — parked nearby without documents. Fire personnel deployed two water tankers, a bowser, and a foam tanker to bring the blaze under control. It was finally doused by early morning.Police have registered a case, and the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, with authorities probing whether it was accidental or deliberate.
