Salem: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami continued his attack on late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, accusing him of working for the welfare of his family at a cost of DMk cadres.Campaigning in Salem on Tuesday, EPS said AIADMK icons M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa were `deities’ who uplifted the masses. “They uplifted common men like me to this position. On the other hand, Karunanidhi only helped his family grow,” EPS said. EPS said MGR was a `magnanimous’ leader who nurtured AIADMK cadres to develop the same qualities. On the other hand, neither Karunanidhi nor Stalin were interested in the welfare of the cadres of their party, he said.Over the past few days, EPS had been targeting Karunanidhi. He started with the accusation that Karunanidhi’s movements were restrained by Stalin for a few years before his demise. When Stalin hit back saying Karunanidhi was like a `lion’ who cannot be restrained by anyone, EPS alleged that Karunanidhi was not a great leader as portrayed by his son. In response to Stalin’s charge that EPS refused land for memorial of Karunanidhi, EPS alleged the late DMK leader had did the same by refusing land for memorials of chief minister Kamaraj as well as Janakiammal. EPS has also said that he would order a probe into the cirumstances surrounding the demise of Karunanidhi.He also sharpened his attack on deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and DMK MP Kanimozhi. “People will put an end to the dynastic rule in the upcoming assembly election,” he said.On his allegations about 2g spectrum case, EPS referred to an audio clip, and dared DMK leaders to file a case against him for speaking about the contents in the clip. “I have seen several cases. I will not be cowed down by such threats,” he said.
