Mangaluru: An unidentified man’s decomposed body was discovered in a forested area near the Nethravati river in Dharmasthala. According to a complaint filed at Dharmasthala police station, Mahesh, 35, of Puduvettu village in Belthangady taluk, reported the incident on Monday. Mahesh, who was on duty at the information office of the Dharmasthala temple, was approached by a pilgrim who informed him about a decomposed body lying in the forest along the national highway. Acting on the information, Mahesh accompanied the pilgrim to the spot. Upon inspection, they found the body of an unidentified man, estimated to be around 40-50 years old, in a highly decomposed state. The body was located in the Banglegudde forest area near the Nethravati bathing ghat, along the Ujire-Kokkada national highway in Dharmasthala village, Belthangady taluk. An unnatural death report was registered under section 194 of the BNSS. Investigations are on to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the cause of death, police said.
