Guwahati: The state health department observed World Health Day 2026 on Tuesday on the theme “Together for Health-Stand with Science”, with the year-long global campaign highlighting the critical need for scientific collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants and the planet, with emphasis on evidence-based action and the ‘One Health’ approach.The event in the city was attended by the mission director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, the director of health services, and all state programme heads under NHM. Following directions from MD NHM Assam, Lakshmanan S, all programme heads listed at least two wishes to be executed in their respective programmes over the coming year in line with the World Health Day theme. The day was also observed across all districts of the state under the initiative of the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), NHM Assam.A brainstorming session was held at the office of the director of health services in Guwahati. “Discussions and the meeting focused on the primary targets of reducing IMR, MMR and TB to achieve the national goals and SDG goals,” Lakshmanan told TOI.Highlighting the need to improve “One Health” literacy, he said, “One Health is an integrated approach that recognises the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals, plants and our shared environment.” He urged people to practise simple, science-backed actions that protect humans, animals and the environment.
