Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader, who is also the MLA of Mangaluru Assembly Constituency, directed officials to take precautions to ensure there are no issues in the supply of drinking water to the public.Khader held a meeting with officials at the DC’s office regarding the drinking water situation in his constituency, on TuesdayHe emphasised that gram panchayats and urban local bodies should prioritise drinking water supply in the summers. Efforts should be made to supply water without any interruptions. Local issues should be resolved at their level, and work should be carried out using funds from gram panchayats and urban local bodies. Public complaints should be addressed promptly, he said.Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, connections should be provided to all households. Water from relevant sources should reach tanks built under this scheme to ensure a continuous water supply to residential areas. If necessary, water should be supplied via tankers. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, water meters should be installed in all houses without water connections. Proper information on houses pending meter installation should be gathered and consolidated to propose additional funding to the govt, he said.There should be no delay in providing electricity connections for drinking water projects. Roads dug for pipe installation should be restored without delay. Departments and corporations related to drinking water should work in coordination, he added.ZP CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari said that drinking water project works should be handed over to the gram panchayat only after completion. There should be no pressure for transfer before the completion of work. The concerned contractors are responsible for maintaining the work for up to one year, he informed.The meeting was attended by Mangaluru Urban Development chairman Sadashiva Ullal, and project director G Santhosh Kumar.
