Ahmedabad: The family of a 35-year-old woman, who died at her matrimonial house in New Ranip, suspects she was murdered by her husband, Sabarmati police officers said on Tuesday. She was strangulated after a dispute, the woman’s father has alleged in his complaint filed on Monday. The Bhudarpura resident, who is a driver by profession, said his daughter was being harassed and pressured by the accused to seek divorce. According to the FIR, the woman had divorced her first husband in 2022 and married the accused the same year. The couple had a son in 2024, and had moved into their New Ranip residence a year and a half ago.About 20 days before her death, the woman had visited her family and told them that her husband frequently picked up fights, and was having an extramarital affair with a colleague. She also alleged that he was pressuring her to seek a divorce and had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter. The family’s intervention failed to resolve the issue. The FIR states that on April 4, the complainant got a call from the father of the accused, saying she had taken ill. On reaching, the woman’s family found her lying dead on a bed. The complainant alleged that there were visible injury marks on her neck. The husband allegedly claimed that she felt giddy after coming out of the bathroom, vomited and died. Not buying his version, her family alerted police. On April 5, her body was sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem. Police have booked the husband for murder and are probing the cause of death.
