Kanpur: Bail application of dowry death accused Sulabh Mishra alias Shyam Babu, resident of Jamu village under Bidhano police station, was rejected by additional sessions judge in Courtroom Number 20, Kanpur Nagar, on Tuesday.According to Sanjay Kumar Jha, additional district govt counsel, Mishra, accused in the 2012 case, absconded for 12 years. Along with other accused, he was arrested after attachment of property in 2024. The court had already dismissed bail application of co-accused in the case. According to the complainant, he married his daughter Uma Devi with Sulabh Mishra alias Shyam Babu on Nov 23, 2010 and sent her with dowry and gifts suited to his status. Mishra and his family were not satisfied with the gifts and were demanding a motorcycle and tortured and beat up Uma to press their demand. She spoke about it when she visited her parental home. On Jan 17, 2012, Mishra and his family members allegedly killed Uma and hanged the body to make it look like a case of suicide. Post mortem report stated combined effect of asphyxia varicose congestion due to ante mortem hanging as cause of death. Mishra that he had no criminal history and was under judicial custody for last two years. He said he would not abuse bail and would appear in the court on every date of hearing.The ADGC strongly opposed the bail plea and since evidence against him was available on record, therefore, the bail application be dismissed.The presiding judge observed the charges levelled against the accused were of serious nature and there was no sufficient ground to grant him bail.
