Kolkata: A 30-year-old IT executive, Kiran Mishra, riding an app bike to office on Tuesday was killed after a govt bus hit the two-wheeler from behind at RS Software crossing in Sector V while the biker tried to veer right to avoid a large crater in the middle of the road and accidentally came in front of the bus.A resident of Burdwan, Mishra used to live on rent with a friend at a Keshtopur flat. A graduate in computer science, she was an R&D engineer at a global electronic design, emulation and software firm.Cops said the accident happened around 10.15 am when the woman was moments away from her office at Infinity Tower at GP Block in Sector V.“Eye witnesses said that the biker was riding at a safe pace but he had to veer right to avoid a waterlogged crater in the middle of the Ring Road near RS Software crossing. The bus was right behind the two-wheeler and somehow went on to hit it,” said a cop who was among the first to respond on Tuesday.The cop said that although the impact wasn’t much, the woman, riding pillion,lost balance and fell off the bike when the front wheel of the bus ran over her legs and waist. She was taken to Bidhannagar subdivisional hospital in quick time but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors. The app bike rider suffered bruises.Doctors said apart from external wounds that led to immense blood loss, she also suffered multiple internal injuries. After the accident, cops apprehended the driver of the govt bus of route Haldia-Salt Lake Karunamoyee.Police said, Mishra usually came to office with her friend who also works in Sector V and used to drop her on his bike. However, on Tuesday, the friend had overslept and woke up late. So, Mishra booked an app bike and headed out for work when the accident took place.“His friend told us that it was a daily routine of the friend to drop her to office before he himself went to work as both of them worked close by. Shortly after the accident, he called on her cellphone to check on her when he was informed him about the accident,” said the officer.
