Chandrapur: Ghuggus police have uncovered a major fraud involving illegal takeover and dismantling of two dumpers belonging to a Bhadravati-based businessman, detaining one accused in Nagpur while the main accused remains in custody in Chhattisgarh in connection with similar offences.The case surfaced after Govind Atul Kundu of Bhadravati reported that his two Tata dumpers (MH-29-BE-1656 and MH-29-BE-1657) were taken by Sabir Ali Sirajuddin Syed, a resident of Ghuggus, on the pretext of purchase through notarised documents. However, the accused neither paid the agreed amount nor returned the vehicles.Following a complaint, Ghuggus police registered a cheating case and launched technical investigation under API Yogesh Patil. The probe revealed that the vehicles were transported to Nagpur and handed over to one Jiya-ur-Rehman alias Jiya Ansari.Acting on this information, police raided a location in Nagpur and detained Ansari. During questioning, he admitted to dismantling the dumpers using gas-cutter on the instructions of Syed. Police recovered several parts, including chassis pieces, tyres, an oil tank, and other components.Investigators also found that the main accused is linked to similar offences in Chhattisgarh, where he is currently lodged in custody.The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior district officials, with PI Prakash Raut leading the team.Police have urged vehicle owners to remain cautious while selling or leasing vehicles, advising proper legal transfer, verification of buyers, and completion of all Regional Transport Office procedures to avoid such fraud.
