Guwahati: Three persons, suspected to be dacoits, died after being allegedly lynched by a mob in Assam’s Nagaon district early Monday, police said.The incident occurred at around 2am in No.-1 Kathpara village under Rupahihat police station. The three have been identified as Azibur Rehman, Saif Ullah, and Anamul Haque, said officer-in-charge Suraj Dutta.“There were four dacoits who sustained grievous injuries. Three died en route to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital. The fourth, Rekib Uddin, is undergoing treatment and will be interrogated once stable,” Dutta said.According to police, a group of around 12 suspected dacoits broke into the residence of Mujjamil Haque Choudhury. As they attempted to flee after reportedly looting valuables, locals raised an alarm and chased them. Four were caught in a nearby paddy field and beaten severely.“By the time our team arrived, they were critically injured with multiple external wounds,” Dutta said.Knives and other sharp weapons were recovered from the suspects. Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the remaining accused.
