Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Monday visited several parts of the city, including Naveen Nagar in Kakadeo, to assess the damage caused by the recent storm and heavy rains, and directed officials to expedite restoration work. Accompanied by the executive engineer of the horticulture department and corporator Naveen Kureel, the mayor inspected the affected sites, where uprooted trees had damaged houses and blocked roads. She also instructed officials to deploy sufficient manpower to clear debris and ensure that tree trunks and wood are transported to the municipal corporation headquarters. The storm that struck the city on Saturday evening, accompanied by high-speed winds and heavy rainfall, caused widespread destruction. Two people lost their lives after trees fell on them, while several others were injured. Power supply was also severely affected, leading to electricity disruption across many areas until Sunday night. Executive engineer (Horticulture) Diwakar Bhaskar said that 22 teams have been deployed to cut and remove fallen trees. Reports from the control room indicated that nearly all parts of the city witnessed uprooted trees, with priority given to clearing major roads in the initial phase. The mayor also directed officials to undertake plantation drives at sites where trees were lost, aiming to restore and maintain the city’s green cover in the aftermath of the storm.
