Kanpur: Police arrested four accused, including two brothers, in a robbery case, following an encounter near Bhogneepur Canal Bridge in Nagar Lakhna under Bakewar police station of Etawah on Monday morning. Police said a joint team of Lavedi, Bakewar, Vaidpura police and Crime Branch carried out the operation in connection with the robbery involving a couple near Lakhna canal on March 28. Acting on a tip-off, the police team reached near a school close to Mahipalpur, where two youths were seen approaching on a bike. Seeing the cops, the two youths opened fire. In retaliatory firing by the police, the two robbers suffered bullet injuries in their legs and were caught. They were later admitted to Mahewa CHC for treatment. The accused were identified as Vishwas alias Bishu, a resident of Awas Vikas Naubasta in Kanpur and Raghavendra, both are cousins. The two other accused are— Suraj Lodhawat, who had conducted recce for the robbery and Shankar Soni, who had purchased the snatched chain. The police also seized two country-made pistols of .315 bore, six live cartridges, four empty cartridge shells, 15 grams of melted gold and 5 mobile phones from them.SP Rural Shrish Chandra said police were probing the criminal history of the offenders.
