Hyderabad: City police commissioner VC Sajjanar on Monday honoured a young boy, Mohammad Firoz, for his alertness and courage in rescuing an eight-year-old girl from a dangerous situation. The boy was felicitated at the commissioner’s office in Basheerbagh, where he was presented with a cash reward and a certificate of appreciation in the presence of senior police officials. The incident occurred on April 1 in the Abids area, when the girl was returning home from school. An auto driver, identified as Sali from Mehdipatnam, allegedly took her in his vehicle and drove towards a deserted area in Golconda. Firoz, who was coming out of a nearby mosque, noticed the girl inside the auto and became suspicious. Acting quickly, he stopped the vehicle and spoke to the frightened child, who revealed that the driver was behaving inappropriately.Sensing trouble, the driver fled the spot, leaving the girl behind. Firoz immediately contacted the girl’s family using details from her ID card. Around the same time, Abids police ‘Blue Colts’ constables Saikrishna and Kedar Singh, who were nearby, responded swiftly and ensured the child was safely reunited with her parents. Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused, seized the auto and remanded him to judicial custody.
