Ranchi: Facing growing concerns over water scarcity, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Monday directed multiple agencies to take immediate corrective measures, including repairing leakages, fixing defunct infrastructure and ensuring tanker supply across wards. The directions were issued during a meeting chaired by mayor Roshni Khalkho with officials from the municipal water supply branch, PHED and JUIDCO, along with ward councillors who flagged ground-level issues from their respective areas. An official statement read, “All departments have been instructed to work in coordination with ward councillors and resolve public grievances related to water supply without delay.”Mayor Khalkho emphasised that complaints raised by councillors must be addressed on priority. “All officials must take immediate steps to resolve issues faced by residents and ensure that no ward suffers due to lapses in coordination,” she said.Among key measures, the civic body ordered urgent repair of leaking pipelines, restoration of defunct HYDT systems and hand pumps, and cleaning of clogged drains that affect water flow and storage. The corporation also directed that drinking water be supplied through tankers in areas facing acute shortages.Officials said the focus is on preventing further deterioration of supply during peak summer demand by plugging leakages and restoring non-functional assets. Departments have also been asked to fix accountability and ensure time-bound action on complaints received from wards.“The objective is to provide relief to residents facing water-related issues and maintain equitable distribution across the city,” she added.
