Hyderabad: A day after AIMIM leaders allegedly obstructed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials and injured a constable during an anti-encroachment drive, city police on Sunday arrested the son of a former corporator.Police said Sahil Akber was arrested, while his father, former corporator Ghouse, and MLC Rahmat Baig have also been named as accused in the case.“Sahil Akber has been arrested and produced before the court for judicial remand. Efforts are underway to take further legal action against the remaining accused,” Hyderabad police commissioner V C Sajjanar said in a statement.Mild tension prevailed during Akber’s arrest as he allegedly resisted police.The incident occurred on Saturday during an anti-encroachment drive by GHMC officials at Murgi Chowk in Hussainialam. According to police, a group of locals, allegedly supported by the accused, created a ruckus. A constable deployed for bandobust sustained a hand injury.The drive was being carried out from Lad Bazar to Puranapool. Videos of the alleged obstruction by AIMIM leaders went viral on social media, with the leaders accusing officials of evicting footpath vendors without prior notice.“Any attempt to obstruct public servants or resort to violence against officials discharging their lawful duties will be dealt with firmly, as per law,” the commissioner added.
