Times News NetworkChandigarh: A spell of rain accompanied by moderate thunderstorm and gusty winds pushed temperature down in the Tricity on Saturday night. Winds clocking around 50 to 60 kmph, along with lightning, were reported in several parts of the region.According to the meteorological department, light to moderate rain occurred at a few places in Punjab and Haryana over the past 24 hours. In Chandigarh, 4.8mm rain was recorded till Sunday morning, contributing to a noticeable drop in temperature.Maximum temperature in Chandigarh settled at 30.9 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below normal, while the minimum was recorded at 16.2 degrees Celsius, also three degrees below the seasonal average. The sudden change in weather brought cooler conditions after days of relatively warm temperatures. The rain activity is attributed to an active western disturbance affecting northwest India, which also triggered thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in isolated areas across the region. The weather department has forecast partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain and thunderstorm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Day temperatures are expected to hover between 30 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures may remain between 16 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days.Further ahead, partly cloudy conditions are likely to persist through the week, with intermittent spells of rain or thundershowers till April 9. Maximum temperature is expected to range between 29 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may dip slightly to around 15 degrees Celsius.MSID:: 130039972 413 |
