Hyderabad: A late-night ride turned fatal in Hyderabad on Saturday when a speeding goods carrier rammed into a scooter in Madhapur and dragged it for around two kilometres, killing a young woman and injuring her husband.The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Haniya Ayesha. Her husband, 26-year-old Abdul Basith, a private employee working as an export in-charge at Maheshwaram, sustained injuries to his left arm and other parts of his body, and is currently undergoing treatment.According to the police, at around 11:30 pm near the Mindspace underpass in Madhapur, a DCM vehicle, allegedly driven at high speed and in a negligent manner, hit a two-wheeler with the newlywed couple. The accident happened when the couple, who were originally from Kerala, was returning home to Maheshwaram after watching a movie at Kukatpally Lakeshore Mall.The impact of the collision threw the riders onto the road, while their scooter became lodged under the truck. Despite this, the driver failed to stop and continued driving, dragging the vehicle for almost two kilometres towards Jubilee Hills. Locals who noticed the sparks chased the vehicle and intercepted it near the Jubilee checkpoint. The driver, identified as Arif, fled the scene, while the cleaner was apprehended and later taken into police custody. Enraged locals allegedly assaulted the cleaner before the police intervened.The couple were taken to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced Haniya dead on arrival.Police seized both vehicles and launched a search for the absconding driver. A case has been registered and a further investigation is underway.
