Daltonganj: Only 5 out of 14 Aadhaar card enrolment centres run and managed by India Post Payments Bank in the Palamu commissionerate, comprising Garhwa, Latehar and Palamu districts, are functional, sources said. The operational centres are located in Chandwa and Mahuadanr in Latehar district, and Japla in Daltonganj and Rehla in Palamu, while none are functional in Garhwa.Postal superintendent of Palamu commissionerate, S K Sangam, told TOI, “Our five enrolment centres are working while nine are non-operational.”Asked why postmen were not carrying out Aadhaar card enrolment of children in the 0-5 age group at doorsteps, he said, “There are some inherent issues. Parents of children aged 0-5 are least interested in doing so. We have 769 postmen in Palamu commissionerate, out of whom around 200 have expertise in carrying out Aaadhar enrolment.”Md Jawed Hussain, district development commissioner, recently reviewed the functioning of Aadhaar enrolment centres. Sources said he expressed concern over the non-functioning enrolment centre at Pandu Anchal for the last two weeks. The computer operator of the centre was blacklisted by the UIDAI for alleged discrepancies in enrolment, the sources said.Hussain directed block resource centre personnel to ensure Aadhaar enrolment of children in the age group of 5-7 years and 15-17 years.
