Patna: The state govt will integrate the ‘Jeevika didis’ with the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme to promote skill-based employment among rural women. The rural development department will provide training to women across the state and one woman from each family will be given access to low-interest loans under the scheme, BJP spokesperson Preeti Shekhar said in a statement on Friday.“Women who wish to earn their livelihood by engaging in 18 distinct types of traditional trades like handicrafts, artisanal work, etc but have lagged behind due to a lack of modern resources, will now find new opportunities through this scheme,” she said.“This scheme will not only render women self-reliant but will also reinforce the resolve to build a self-reliant Bihar and India. Connecting the Jeevika didis with skill-based employment will lend a new identity and dignity to traditional craftsmanship,” the BJP spokesperson added.Preeti said while the provision of low-interest loans would economically empower women, their participation in employment would also give a fresh push to the rural economy. She said the NDA govt in the state remains committed to educating, empowering and making women self-reliant.
