Thane: BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar sought criminal action against developers after thousands of Kasheli residents faced possible action over buildings allegedly constructed using forged Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority documents.Authorities issued notices asking residents to submit valid paperwork, leaving many homeowners anxious as several had already secured bank loans on these properties, the official statement by Kelkar alleged.Developers are accused of fabricating approvals to construct buildings and facilitate housing loans but are now evading responsibility and refusing to provide mandatory no objection certificates. This has placed residents in a difficult position, with the threat of legal action looming despite their claims of being unaware of the fraud, the press release added.Intervening in the matter, Kelkar directed officials to initiate criminal proceedings against the developers responsible for forging documents. He stressed that innocent residents should not be penalised for the wrongdoing of builders and called for strict and immediate action against those involved in the alleged scam. The issue came to light during a public grievance meeting held in Thane, where several affected residents voiced their concerns. Officials have been asked to examine the matter urgently and explore relief measures for genuine homebuyers, even as action against errant developers is expected to follow.
