LUCKNOW UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that only the BJP-led NDA can free Assam from infiltrators and prevent demographic change.

“The Congress and AIUDF have attempted to distort Assam’s culture and change the demography. NDA’s double-engine government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will drive out infiltrators and not allow the state’s demography to change. The Congress and the AIUDF conspiracy will not be allowed to succeed,” he said addressing a poll rally in favour of Deepak Kumar Das, NDA’s candidate from the Barpeta assembly constituency of Assam. The state goes to polls on April 9.
At his first election rally in Assam, Adityanath targeted the Congress and All-India United Democratic Front, saying: “The Congress has fled much before the elections and it is time to throw the AIUDF into the Bay of Bengal.”
He described Assam as a land of pride for India and said people from across the country visit here to seek blessings of Maa Kamakhya. “The state’s spiritual, cultural and rich traditions have played a significant role in building ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” said the CM.
“The Congress had been in power for 60 years in Assam. But it only encouraged infiltration, violence and riots. It put the local culture and heritage under threat. The Congress and AIUDF are working together to compromise the culture and heritage of the state,” he said. Adityanath targeted the AIUDF, charging it with encouraging infiltrators and aiming to come to power with their support.
He said the Bharat Ratna, the top award, was given mainly to members of one family during Congress rule. “Bhupen Hazarika, a symbol of Assam’s culture, was not awarded Bharat Ratna by Congress, but was honoured in 2019 under the Modi government, while Gopinath Bordoloi received it in 1999 under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government,” added the CM.
Adityanath said wherever NDA-led governments are in power in the country, there is development and respect for heritage. The NDA government is taking steps to identify and remove infiltrators while also advancing projects like the Maa Kamakhya Corridor and development works under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he said.
Referring to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement in Ayodhya, he said after decades, the construction of the Ram Mandir became possible under a double-engine government. “Today, UP is free from riots, curfews and mafia. No curfew, no danga, vaha sab hai changa,” added Adityanath.
