Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday announced that over 81,000 personnel will be recruited in the Uttar Pradesh Police during the financial year 2026-27, marking a major capacity expansion aimed at strengthening law enforcement while creating large-scale employment opportunities for youth.“This large-scale recruitment drive will equip the state with a capable, energetic and modern police force,” the CM said during a late-evening review of various police department units and their future roadmap.The proposed vacancies include sub-inspectors, civil police constables, radio assistant operators, computer operators (Grade-A), and confidential sub-inspectors. Some recruitment processes have already been initiated.UP Police has witnessed large-scale recruitment over the past nine years, with approximately 3 lakh personnel inducted, raising the overall strength to nearly 5.5 lakh. In the past year alone, about 60,244 constables were recruited, including 12,048 women. Additional recruitments were also made across departments, including around 700 personnel in the jail department, 200 in ministerial posts, nearly 200 computer operators, and several others in different ranks. The expansion has also focused on improving gender representation, with around 50,000 women personnel serving across ranks, including three all-women police battalions.The CM instructed the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board to adopt technology-driven mechanisms to ensure credibility and efficiency.Highlighting the need for a modern policing system, Yogi stressed equal focus on advanced technology, transparent functioning and capable human resources, directing officials to adopt a result-oriented approach with accountability at every level to ensure a secure environment for citizens.Reviewing the UP Police Emergency Response Service 112, he noted the current average response time of around six minutes and directed efforts to reduce it further. He instructed strategic placement and continuous movement of Police Response Vehicles, use of data-driven patrolling, hotspot-based monitoring, and revision of route charts every 15 days. Additional four-wheelers and two-wheelers are to be deployed as needed.Yogi also directed the transfer of police personnel posted for long durations at key establishments in Lucknow, including Raj Bhavan, the chief minister’s residence and police headquarters to maintain transparency and efficiency in functioning.During the review of fire services, it was reported that over 42,000 fire incidents were controlled in 2025-26, with more than 10,000 emergency responses and property worth nearly Rs 800 crore saved. Yogi directed that each district must have at least one hydraulic fire tender and that the “one tehsil-one fire tender” initiative be implemented on priority. He also stressed awareness campaigns and preventive measures ahead of the summer season.Officials informed that Rs 425 crore was saved in 2025-26 through timely cyber interventions. A total of 3,14,077 technical actions, including 1,14,220 IMEI blockings and 1,99,857 other device-related actions, were carried out. Of 3,91,340 complaints received, 2,40,015 were registered during the year, and legal action was taken in 7,287 cases.The cyber helpline 1930 has seen a sharp rise in capacity, with daily call handling increasing from 1,709 to 7,467 calls, and around 59% of cases being effectively resolved. Additionally, 65,608 police personnel were trained and 84,705 certificates issued. The CM directed intensified awareness campaigns and strengthened digital safety mechanisms.Reviewing vigilance operations, Yogi noted 414 pending investigations as of April 1, 2026, and set a target to complete all 340 cases pending up to 2025 within the current financial year. The CM reaffirmed zero tolerance for corruption, directing swift trap and search operations.Officials informed that e-office systems are being implemented in police radio departments across all 75 districts, with digitisation completed in 63 districts. Training for 936 newly appointed chief operators will begin soon. The chief minister stressed strengthening communication systems to make them more modern and seamless.The Economic Offences Wing reported strengthening investigations through a central crack team and case management systems. The Chief minister directed strict action against financial crimes and expansion of public awareness campaigns.
