In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Aisshwarya Panddit, celebrity cosmetic doctor and founder, Aura Edge Wellness Pvt Ltd., shares a few daily habits you can practice to protect your skin from sun damage.

1. Use sunscreen daily
Dr Panddit suggests that you must use sunscreen daily, even if you are staying at home, as it will protect your skin from damage. We often think sunscreen is needed only when we are stepping out, but harsh sun rays can impact our skin even inside the house.
2. Stay away from the sun in peak hours
Avoiding the sun during peak hours will not only protect your skin from sun damage but will also help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
3. Take shade
While sunscreen is important, sometimes, taking a few precautions, like walking through the shaded area or carrying an umbrella, can do wonders for your skin.
4. Wear protective clothes
In the summer season, it is recommended to wear protective clothes, which shield the skin from sun damage and will also add a few years to your life.
5. Stay well hydrated
Hydration is the key to keeping your skin glowing and healthy in the long run. Dr Panddit said, “Adequate hydration helps maintain the skin’s barrier function and ability to withstand hot and environmental conditions.”
6. Use antioxidant-based skincare
According to Dr Panddit, using skincare that helps to combat damage caused to the skin can actually make the skin more resistant to damage. You can consult a dermatologist to find the right skincare products.
7. Cleanse gently after exposure
Dr Panddit said, “Cleaning sweat, sunscreen, and pollution from the skin at night can prevent irritation. You can use a water-based or gel-based cleanser to clean your skin.”
8. Avoid excessive heat on the skin
Using warm water after sun exposure can further damage your skin, so it should be avoided.
Dr Panddit emphasizes that it is the consistency that makes these practices effective. Making small changes to our routine can actually provide better protection to our skin than any other measure. With appropriate strategies in mind, sun protection can actually be an integral part of our routine rather than something we think about at the last minute.
