Varanasi: In a joint action of Anpara and Shaktinagar police, five robbers were arrested after they opened fire at police team and two of them suffered bullet injuries in the leg in retaliatory fire, early Thursday. They were wanted for robbing cash from a finance company on Mar 27.Sonbhadra SP Abhishek Verma on Thursday said both police stations were patrolling in the night when they were alerted about movement of criminals on Mirchadhuri-Anpara road. Both teams moved towards the site from two sides and and surrounded four criminals riding two motorcycles near Kubri Pahadi. When the criminals opened fire at the police team in their bid to escape.During retaliatory action by police, Sanjay Yadav and Pankaj Srivastav of Jhirkaadandi suffered bullet injuries in the leg. Their accomplices, Dheeraj Yadav and Hariom Jaiswal, were also arrested. After recovering two pistols, cartridges, looted goods and two motorcycles, police admitted the injured robbers to a hospital. On the basis of information giving by them, mastermind, Chandresh Yadav, was also arrested.The SP said the robbers came on police radar for attacking collection agent of a finance company on Mar 27 and fled after robbing his bag containing cash worth Rs 63,000, a biometric machine, mobile phone, collection diary and other essential documents.During interrogation, the robbers arrested divulged that Chandresh used to select targets for robbing. The SP said investigation revealed Dheeraj Yadav had also served as student union general secretary at PG College Obra in the past.
