Kanpur: Police arrested a kidnapping accused, Akeel (35) following an encounter in Gursahayganj Kotwali area of Kannauj district. According to police, Akeel was involved in the kidnapping of a three-year-old girl from Dundwa Buzurg village under Majhpurwa outpost recently. The accused sustained a bullet injury during the encounter and was taken to a community health centre.According to police, the minor girl went missing while playing outside her house on Tuesday afternoon. The next day, the girl was found inside a sack in bushes near a local degree college, with injuries on her head and face. Police sent her to district hospital for medical examination and launched a search operation to trace the accused.During questioning, villagers named Akeel as a suspect, with some claiming they had seen him with the child. Acting on this information, police tracked him down near Gursahayganj bypass on Thursday morning. Police seized a pistol and cartridges from his possession. Police also examined his mobile phone and reportedly found some objectionable videos and WhatsApp chats. Police said Akeel, who got married four years ago, was living alone after his wife left him.SHO Ajay Awasthi said the accused claimed that he had taken the child to buy snacks. However, further investigation into the case is underway, he added.
