Varanasi: Ramnagar police personnel intercepted a cattle-laden truck near Vishwa Sundari Bridge on Thursday and arrested an alleged cattle smuggler after exchange of fire, while his accomplice escaped. Naushad Ahmad was arrested after he suffered a bullet injury in the leg during exchange of fire with Ramnagar police but his accomplice Mubeen dodged police.ACP (Kotwali) Vijay Pratap Singh said Ramnagar police seized 34 cattle with a container truck heading to Bihar border. Teams were engaged to search for Mubeen were alerted in the afternoon about his presence on the Mirzapur highway. Ramnagar police cordoned the area and when Mubeen saw police approaching, he tried to escape after opening fire at police but in retaliatory action, suffered a bullet injury in the leg and was caught near the bridge.After recovering a firearm and cartridges, police rushed him to the hospital. The ACP said Mubeen, resident of Kaushambi district, has nine cases registered against him in various districts, mostly related to cattle smuggling.
