Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested along with his aide after an encounter in Pratapgarh early Thursday, police said.The police recovered a country made pistol of 0.315 bore, one used and two live cartridges, Rs 1,730 cash and a motorcycle from the criminal identified as Vipin Kumar Nishad. Nishad suffered injuries to his left leg and was admitted to the district hospital. Police said a team of Dehlupur police was conducting routine checks near Narsinghgarh Bridge Road when they noticed two suspicious men on a motorcycle. The cops signaled them to stop, but the rider tried to escape. However, when the police team surrounded them, they opened fire. The cops retaliated, resulting in an injury to Nishad. His aide– Raju of Khiri in Prayagraj– was also arrested. Police said Nishad, 35, a resident of Industrial Area in Prayagraj, has 36 criminal cases pending against him in different police stations of Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Bhadohi and Mirzapur.
