Fazilka: Fazilka police on Thursday claimed to have cracked a kidnapping case within four hours, rescuing the hostage and arresting six accused, including three women.The case came to light on Wednesday when Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Dhani Seeto Gunno in Abohar tehsil, reported to police that his father, who had left home around 10 am for some work in Seeto Gunno, had not returned. Later, Rakesh’s nephew Anuj Kumar received a call from the victim’s phone, with the caller claiming that the man had been held hostage and demanding Rs 2.5 lakh for his release.After some time, another call was made from the victim’s phone. This time a woman spoke, warning that if the ransom was not deposited in the bank account provided, he would be falsely implicated in a rape case.Shortly thereafter, Rakesh received yet another call, threatening that if their demands were not met, an obscene video of his father would be made and circulated. Gauging the gravity of the incident, Rakesh approached the police.On receiving the information, the Fazilka police started an investigation. Within four hours, the culprits were traced and arrested by setting up a blockade on the Malout-Sito Gunno road, and the abducted man was rescued.Fazilka senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh said a case of kidnapping, extortion, intimidation and criminal conspiracy under sections 140(2), 140(3), 308(4), 308(5), 308(6), 351 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against Mandeep Singh alias Mannu, Veerpal Kaur, Jaswant Kumar and Seema Rani, all residents of Malout, Japinderjit Singh, a resident of Deon Khera, and Santosh Rani, a resident of Tapa Khera village.
