Nagpur: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools to stop collecting unauthorised fees from students during the List of Candidates (LOC) submission process for the Class 10 second board examination, warning that any violation will be viewed seriously.
CBSE has altered its rules and now conducts two board examinations for Class 10, which allows students another attempt.
In a circular issued on Monday, CBSE’s controller of examinations Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj said it has came to the board’s notice that some schools were demanding three months’ tuition fees from students at the time of LOC submission. The circular stated this practice was strictly against CBSE rules and must be discontinued immediately.
The board clarified that LOC submission process has been divided into three phases. Phase 1 requires only the filling of LOC with no fee payment. Its purpose is solely to ascertain the number of candidates likely to appear in the Second Board Examination so that CBSE can make necessary preparations.
In Phase 2 and Phase 3, students may submit, alter, drop or add candidature and subjects, and pay the requisite examination fee to finalise the LOC. This process is carried out through the school from which the students appeared in the main board examination.
The only permissible fee at any stage is the examination fee stipulated in the LOC circular. Schools have been directed to refrain from collecting any additional or unauthorised fees in connection with LOC submission and to discontinue any activity that violates CBSE regulations with immediate effect.
The board also clarified that even if a student submits the LOC and pays the examination fee but later decides not to appear in the Second Board Examination, performance in the main board examination will be used for the declaration of result.
