Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old garage worker on Tuesday lodged a complaint with Sola police after Rs 22,000 was allegedly debited from his bank account via a UPI transaction without his knowledge or an OTP being shared. The complainant, a Chandkheda resident, works at an auto garage near Gota crossroads and has been using a savings account with a private bank linked to his UPI application since 2020. According to the FIR, the incident occurred on March 26.After finishing work at the garage, the victim checked his phone and saw an SMS alert stating that Rs 22,000 had been debited from his account. On verifying the transaction history on his UPI app, he found that the amount was transferred to an unknown UPI ID.The victim claimed that he neither shared any OTP nor authorized the transaction, leading him to suspect that his mobile phone or UPI account may have been compromised. He immediately contacted the cybercrime helpline and registered an online complaint, receiving an acknowledgement number.Subsequently, he approached Sola police station and filed a formal complaint seeking legal action against the unidentified cyber fraudsters. Police initiated an investigation to trace the beneficiary account and examine the possibility of hacking or unauthorized access.
