Ahmedabad: A 50-year-old Ranip woman on Tuesday filed a complaint with Vadaj police alleging that she was duped of Rs 7 lakh by three persons who promised her a house under a slum redevelopment scheme but failed to deliver.According to the FIR, the complainant, a civic sanitation worker, was looking for affordable housing in 2024. During her work near Bhimjipura Circle, she discussed her requirement with acquaintances, following which a local trader approached her and claimed that he could arrange a house through contacts involved in slum redevelopment projects. The accused later introduced her to two others, who assured the woman that they could secure a flat for her in the Ramapir Tekra redevelopment project. They collected copies of identity documents and photographs, claiming that a beneficiary file would be prepared and submitted for approval. To gain her trust, the accused allegedly showed them a sample house in the area and handed over a file bearing the name of a reputed developer, complete with stamps and signatures. The victim was told that while such flats typically cost Rs 9 lakh, she would get one for Rs 7 lakh considering her financial condition. Believing the claims, the woman and her husband paid Rs 6.5 lakh in cash initially, followed by Rs 50,000 later. However, months passed without any progress. The accused allegedly kept giving vague assurances and eventually became unreachable. Upon inquiry, the complainant discovered that the house she was shown was already allotted to someone else. Realizing that she had been cheated, she approached the police. Vadaj police have registered a case of cheating and breach of trust.
