Ludhiana: Although civic authorities have raised the recovery bar for employees to Rs 195 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year, they failed to achieve the current year’s target. The Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) recovered approximately Rs 154 crore in property tax against a budget target of Rs 160 crore for 2025-26 and an internal employee target of Rs 180 crore. Officials attributed this shortfall to the public’s failure to fulfill their duty of paying taxes.Official data reveals that Zone C recovered 90% of its assigned target, while other zones fluctuated between 82% and 85%. Breaking down the collections: Zone A contributed Rs 21.3 crore, Zone B Rs 38.1 crore, and Zone C Rs 24.5 crore. Zone D recorded the highest recovery at Rs 70.3 crore. In contrast, the MC successfully surpassed its goals in previous years. During the 2024-25 financial year, it recovered Rs 153 crore against an annual target of Rs 150 crore. Previously, in the 2023-24 fiscal, the civic body collected roughly Rs 137.7 crore.MC superintendent Vivek Verma stated that field staff data is still being compiled, as several payments were received via cheque. He noted that while employees made significant efforts to recover pending dues, the totals remained slightly behind schedule. Consequently, the focus will now shift toward achieving the increased targets set for the upcoming year.MSID:: 129953124 413 |
