Gurgaon: Police have apprehended an accused carrying a Rs 5,000 reward for allegedly supplying weapons used in a firing incident outside the building housing designer Mayank Chawla’s office on Golf Course Road. Two pistols, 41 live cartridges, and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from his possession.The accused, identified as Praveen alias Pinna, 30, a resident of Sardhana village in Sonipat district, was nabbed by the Crime Branch Sector 40 team on Monday near Shikohpur village. He sustained a leg fracture while attempting to flee after abandoning his bike and has been admitted to a hospital. Police said he will be formally arrested after discharge.The incident occurred on Feb 21, when the caretaker of a building in DLF Phase 1 lodged a complaint stating that two men on a motorcycle fired shots outside the premises. An FIR was registered at the DLF Phase 1 police station.The Crime Branch had earlier arrested Ravikant Vashishth, 30, a resident of Patel Nagar, on Feb 26. Interrogation revealed that he, along with a co-accused, was involved in the firing, allegedly at the behest of another individual.In the latest development, police said Praveen, along with another accused, Mohit, supplied the weapons used in the crime. During questioning, Praveen also confessed to involvement in a theft case in Delhi.“Police records show that the accused has a criminal history, including one murder case, two cases under the Arms Act registered in Panipat, and one assault case in Delhi. Further investigation is underway,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said.Earlier in Feb, three men were arrested by the Special Task Force: Devender, 41, and Naveen, 30, both from Parnala in Jhajjar, and Sandeep, 44, from Silana in Sonipat. STF also seized two automatic pistols, seven live cartridges, and a vehicle from them.Gangster Deepak Nandal claimed responsibility for the firing outside designer Chawla’s office on social media and issued warnings to others. TOI had learnt that Nandal sought Rs 5 crore from the designer.The post shared by Nandal also included the names of Rao Inderjeet Yadav, founder of a music company and wanted in multiple murder, attempted murder, and cheating cases in the state.The post also mentioned one Rinku Boss, a sarpanch. Last year, Nandal and Yadav were named in three FIRs in the city alone—for engineering the firing on rapper Fazilpuria’s car on Southern Peripheral Road on July 14, the contract killing of property dealer Rohit Shokeen on Aug 4, and the firing at real estate company MNR Buildmark’s office in Sector 45 on Sept 18.
