Kanpur: Additional district and sessions judge, Kanpur Nagar, Sapna Tripathi, on Tuesday sentenced accused Mohd Ismail to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000 for committing murder.The court acquitted co-accused Chaman for want of evidence and observed that the period the accused had passed in jail during the trial would be adjusted in the sentence. If the accused failed to pay the fine then he had to suffer another three months term in jail.According to additional district government counsel, Pradeep Kumar Sahu, Shaukat Ali of Shujat Ganj, lodged a report at the Chakeri police station on Oct 14, 2007 alleging that he, his brother Mohd Ali, and nephews Rais Ahmad and Faizal went to village Nehura on the call of Mohd Israel, Chaman and Jabir to execute a compromise. The meeting was held at the shanty shop of Afzal Paanwala. They had heated arguments after wich Jabir and Chaman caught Mohd Ali f and Israel shot him. The accused thereafter sped away on a scooter. Mohd Ali died on the spot. The police later arrested Israel and Chaman along with the pistol, the ADGC said. tnn
