Hyderabad: Excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday accused the Andhra Pradesh govt of violating norms in utilisation of water from the Srisailam reservoir and undertaking power generation, disregarding Telangana’s interests.Addressing a media conference at Gandhi Bhavan, along with Achampet MLA Chikkudu Vamsi Krishna and Nagarkurnool legislator Rajesh Reddy, minister Jupally said the guidelines clearly prohibit power generation once the water level in the reservoir reaches the minimum drawdown level (MDDL) of 834 feet (254.2 metres).“These norms were overlooked by the AP, which continued power generation and also drew water illegally and unjustly. Our repeated appeals went unheeded. As a result, public representatives from the Mahabubnagar district gave a call for a protest demonstration (Vantavarpu) at Srisailam. It is only after our warning that the AP govt halted power generation,” Jupally alleged.Asserting that the interests of Telangana remain paramount, the minister said there would be no compromise on the state’s rightful share of water. “The govt, the Congress party, and public representatives are fully prepared to defend Telangana’s rights on every drop of its share in the river waters,” he said. |
