Shimla: Education minister Rohit Thakur on Sunday said despite difficult financial conditions, the state govt had prioritised education and allocated approximately Rs 9,666 crore to the education department, which is about 18% of the total budget, to ensure quality education for children.
Thakur on Sunday inaugurated a newly constructed library at Govt Senior Secondary School, Sarog, under the Theog assembly constituency, and dedicated it to the public. MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore was also present.
The minister said that Himachal Pradesh had made significant progress in education since 1947. Earlier, the state’s literacy rate was only 7%, whereas today it has reached 99.30%, which is a matter of pride for this hill state, he added.
Thakur informed that 151 CBSE schools had been opened in the state, out of which four were in the Theog assembly constituency, including at Theog, Kumarsain, Matiana, and Sainj. He also announced the introduction of the commerce subject at Govt Senior Secondary School, Sarog.
The minister further said on March 27, both circuits of the 66-kilovolt Pragatinagar-Hulli double-circuit transmission line were successfully commissioned at a cost of Rs 12.33 crore.
Later, Thakur visited Kotkhai, where he laid the foundation stone for six Type-II staff quarters of the public works department, to be built at a cost of Rs 2 crore. He also announced that horticulture would be introduced as a vocational subject in Classes 11 and 12 in schools across the state, with emphasis on research and development.
