Lucknow: The UP state institute of forensic sciences (UPSIFS) is set to collaborate with four educational institutions to provide its students’ opportunities for internships, research and practical exposure. These four institutions are — Maharana Pratap Institute of Technology (MPIT), Gorakhpur; Dhirubhai Ambani University (DAU), Gandhinagar; UP Prisons Administration and Reform Services (UPPARS) and King George’s Medical University (KGMU). Through these collaborations, students will receive hands-on, high-level training, said a govt spokesperson.Emphasising that forensic education has traditionally theoretical, these collaborations will make it practical. “Our goal is to make students job-ready,” said UPSIFS director GK Goswami. He said that with the partnerships with four institutions, forensic science students will gain exposure to case studies, postmortem procedures, medico-legal aspects and practical dimensions of criminal investigation. For instance, the collaboration with KGMU, students will closely observe postmortem procedures including the entire process from inquest to autopsy. “This will help them understand the circumstances of death and how scientific analysis is conducted,” he said. UPSIFS deputy director Chiranjeev Mukherjee said that the MoU with UPPARS will allow students to visit jails and conduct case studies of inmates. “Students will learn about bail processes, prison environments and the social and psychological factors behind crimes. This exposure will help them understand the root causes of criminal behaviour, which is essential for a forensic expert,” Mukherjee said.
